The morning coffee will make you jealous and keep your stuff.

February 16th, 2009

coffeeThis morning I like several news articles, so I’m going to cheat a little bit. I will let you know that there are crazy survivalists out there, who think the world is going to end. You will be informed that American media has finally discovered the curious case of Omar Khadr. You will be unsurprised to hear that Facebook breeds jealousy.

It looks like the EU is going to force mobile phone companies to use a single style of phone charger. Thank you, EU.

Do you use Facebook? Are you reading this there? Then you should probably be aware that Facebook has changed its Terms of Service, and now claims the rights to use anything you post there, forever. Personally, I am wondering what this means when I site receives content under copyright from other sources (via RSS and such). I am guessing that they do not (ie, cannot) claim the rights to use that material, but I am curious about it. Technically I upload these things to MrTopp.com, Flickr and Twitter.

Today’s image of the day is by Aevar on Flickr, who in his profile asks people not to use his photos. Usually I simply respect these requests, but this particular photo is easily the most worthwhile of the morning.

As an aside, I have no idea why people have public Flickr profiles with an “All Rights Reserved” copyright (on purpose — not because it’s the default). As the photo is easily accessible (and will be used anyways), why not use a “non-commercial” creative commons license which asks that the work be attributed to you? That way, people will actually respect your rights — which seems unlikely in this case.

Today’s webcomic of the day comes courtesy of Cyanide and Happiness:
