The most horrific news story of the week, in which a woman blinded by an acid attack is demanding her attacker be blinded. The court has agreed, and the attacker will have his eyes burned out with acid. On one hand, this clearly fits under the banner of “cruel and unusual punishment”. On the other hand, when most attackers in this instance just get a fine, it’s easy to see how these attacks can continue to occur. Perhaps this will actually discourage future attacks.

treehuggerThe NYTimes has an opinion piece about the ridiculous back-and-forth on Obama’s stimulus package. Personally, I am sick and tired of the screaming in the press. When ever Obama does something slightly left-wing, the right-wing nuts start foaming that the US is being destroyed. Whenever Obama keeps a Bush policy (and he has to keep some, doesn’t he?) the left-wing nuts start foaming that the US is being destroyed. Holy shit, people — get a grip.
