Elsewhere, New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof talks about the state of newspapers and how people prefer information that confirms their preconceptions. Receiving news via the Internet allows us to confirm our preconceptions, rather than challenging them — and television news is heading the same way, whether you prefer Fox or the Daily Show. Kristof decries the polarizing effect this has, but (unfortunately) does not provide any analysis or solutions — other than asking people to return to their newspapers of yore. I do not think that they will.
