“Ignorance of the law is no excuse” is a common legal principle. One wonders if it can apply in Oregon, however, where the government does not want free dissemination of state law, claiming that they own a copyright on it. It is important that ignorance has been successfully used as a defense in the United States, so there may be legal ramifications to the state’s position.
