The morning coffee and the cold-blooded goat

Richard Dawkins is probably not a reader of the Big Bad Blog. Also unlikely — though less so — is that a loud voice at the British Humanist Association is reading this. But if you are, please read this reaction to the row over your new posters in Belfast. Then, think about who your target audience was, and what might be a good way to reach them.

Dear Denmark: A domestic violence awareness campaign is good in principle. Your Hit the Bitch campaign seems a little out of whack, though.

A cold blooded goat? Yes, a cold blooded goat. Which means that mammals can evolve to be cold blooded. Which means that some day we might really have “cold blooded killers”. Awesome.

    I can’t believe that is what constitutes aggressive atheism.

    @Liz
    I’m not even sure what “aggressive atheism” is supposed to mean. Can you aggressively not believe in something?

    I understand the definition — an aggressive atheist actively attacks theist positions. But it is meant to be an intellectual or philosophical position, based on soundly structured arguments. It is not supposed to be about billboard campaigns and sound bites.

    That poster campaign, however, is completely moronic. Moronic atheism, I like to call it. Or: requesting a backlash against atheists, out of the mistaken belief that acting like elitist prats will convince others that we’re right.

    In any case, I could rant on unproductively. But I won’t. Because it would be unproductive.
