Twitter to Facebook not working?
UPDATE – Feb 16, 2011: After posting last night that they were working on the problem, our Twitter-to-Facebook functionality is working again this morning.
UPDATE – Feb 15, 2011: Twitter-to-Facebook appears to broken again, and the below fix no longer works for us. We will update again if and when we get it to work again.
On Thursday, your Mr. Topp noticed that his Tweets were not showing up in Facebook. Turns out that they hadn’t been showing up since Tuesday.
Same thing with the missus. And everybody else he knows that does the Tweet-importer stuff.
So we went out and found out how to fix it. Here you go:
- Go to http://apps.facebook.com/twitter/
- Uncheck the box labelled “Allow Twitter to post updates to: Facebook Profile”
- Refresh the page, and make sure the box remains unchecked.
(At this point, the instructions we found indicate you should Tweet. We are not sure why. You just turned off the service that was not working.)
UPDATE: If the box does not remain unchecked, one of our commenters has some advice. - Check the box again.
- Refresh the page, and make sure the box remains checked.
Your tweets should once again appear in your Facebook feed.

Oh, thank you! You’ve made (at least) a handful of Professional Organizers very happy with this solution. FYI for your readers, if refreshing doesn’t maintain the “unchecked” status of the check box, we found a workaround:
1) Uncheck the box as advised.
2) Close the browser window.
3) Click the app link in Mr. Topp’s post yet again. For some reason, some browsers (certainly my Safari) need this extra step. It all works from there onward.

I don’t think it worked for me…
You only think so? It should be fairly clear — when you tweet, it comes through, or it does not.
If it does not:
Are your tweets protected? Mine aren’t, so I have no idea if protected tweets will update to Facebook.
Do you use a script blocker? If so, make sure you are allowing scripts on the page when following the above steps.
Are you accessing Facebook via http or https? I don’t see why it should make a difference, but … try the other one.
Finally, try making the change using a different browser. I used Firefox, and we have an example of somebody using Safari (above).
After that, I’m out of ideas for the moment.

Just follow the above instruction but disconnect from FB totally.
First time I just unchecked the box and saved. Didn’t work. Second time I disconnected from FB and it worked. Thanks!!

Well, I did write this back in February. The problem now is probably different.
I assume that you’re using the Twitter App on Facebook? I’ve moved to HootSuite ages ago. I see that Twitter now has a Facebook section in my Twitter profile settings. I would suggest disconnecting Twitter and Facebook there, and reconnecting.
Or moving to HootSuite, which works fine for me.
