The morning coffee and the cops on sleds

Police in Oxford have been reprimanded for using their riot shields as sleds. While one understands that police officers should probably be doing something other than tobogganing when on duty, we prefer the Oxford police approach to that of the Boston police — arresting people who videotape them and charging them with “illegal wiretapping”.

If you’re thinking of making a charitable donation following the earthquake in Haiti, you should donate money, not stuff. Stuff apparently makes things worse. So give to Oxfam, The Red Cross, UNICEF, or the charity of your choice. But leave your blankets and cans of soup at home.
