April 29th is a holiday here in the UK. And while we fully support the concept of being paid not to go into work on a Friday in spring, we also find it slightly odd that the reason for this holiday is that a couple of complete strangers who have no impact whatsoever on my life (other than arranging this free vacation on my behalf) are getting married.
I am not one of these republicans who wants to be rid of the royal family. But neither am I a monarchist. I believe that the current system works — no need to change it — but that this functionality has little to do with the royal family. And a public holiday because a public figure is getting married seems a bit farcical.
So, for those of you who agree with me — and staunch republicans, I suppose — I propose that we declare Friday April 29th, 2011, to be Super-awesome Unicorn Day!
We will celebrate unicorns, rainbows, and everything wonderful.
Mostly, this will mean shouting “UNICORNS!”
Who is with me?
This probably happens a lot: a new bar is opening, and the local community church disapproves. They petition to the relevant authorities, and pray that divine forces will intervene in the bar’s opening. Construction goes ahead, regardless.
However, in Mount Vernon, Texas, the story takes a twist: the bar is hit by lightning before it can open, and burns to the ground.
Struck. By. Lightning.
The churchgoers are all smug, of course. Power of prayer, and all that. Until the bar owner sued the church, claiming that their prayers caused the damage to his establishment.
And the church is now in the awkward position of having to argue in court that the power of prayer is not real.
And we at the Big Bad Blog are left smirking.

Why?
Because we can. And we have a video we want to share. People sing the word “fuck” a lot in the video, so if you’re at work, it would probably be best to turn the volume way up, so everybody knows how awesome you are.

Dating site OkCupid has done research into what makes an attractive profile picture. In what must be a huge surprise, the results indicate that a decent camera and basic knowledge of photography make for better pictures.
