The morning coffee is a hungry place

While Maggie is still a long, long way from becoming a teenager, I still read with baited breath when clues for keeping her hanging out around the house and, you know, near me in fifteen years are being carelessly (or carefully) thrown about the Internet for anybody to see.

The Redneck Mommy provided just such a hint the other day. Lunch meat. Who knew?

I now have to hope that Maggie doesn’t become a vegetarian. Because if she abhors the lunch meat, who knows where she’ll end up hanging out?

The morning coffee – vaccines and viruses

There’s a cafe in Japan where they do not give you what you ordered or what you pay for. Instead they give you what the person before you ordered. The person behind you gets your order.

It appears as though viruses are incredibly important to the human genome. Today’s epidemics might be tomorrow’s genetic building blocks.

Dr. Andrew Wakefield — the man who wrote fraudulent scientific papers that began the vaccine scare amongst parents — might have his medical license taken away, as his behaviour has been described as showing “callous disregard” and abusing his position of trust. This is good. The article I link to is not, as the “Health Correspondent” helps Dr. Wakefield through a fog of BS, rather than cutting through the webs of bureaucracy, scientific/medical jargon and PR that surround the issue.

The Banana Leaf

Pre_dinner

As part of our adventures in Kuala Lumpur, the search for food plays no small part. Both Karen and I are rather experimental eaters — we are willing to try nearly anything. On Thursday night, my colleagues brought our search to Banana Leaf.

Serving

At the Banana Leaf, a banana leaf is laid out in front of you like a placemat. Onto the banana leaf, they pile rice, curries and other delicious foods. You then eat it with your hands.

A rather simple concept.

Simple, but delicious.

Eating

At home in London, the cuisine is famously bad. The reputation is deserved, and the quality of service in London only makes the experience worse. It is a sad truth, and makes the food and service seem wonderful whenever we travel.

The food at the Banana Leaf was simply wonderful, however. some of the most delicious Indian food I have ever had. If you can find it — and I probably could not find it again — it comes highly recommended from Mr Topp and the Big Bad Blog.
