Kyle Cassidy writes a pretty good blog, and takes some pretty good photographs. So it’s easy to see why the Big Bad Blog would be a fan. We begin today with the story Mr. Cassidy’s hat.

An interesting read: The surfer girls of Gaza.

The US government’s latest method of espionage is to attempt to “friend” those applying for citizenship on Facebook.

The weekend coffee, featuring frogs and the solution to sparkling vampires

Note to would-be phone thieves: try not to steal a phone that is being used as part of a GPS tracking demonstration.
Got arthritis? It might be a good idea to get drunk.
Frogs did not always land on their feet. Once upon a time, they would belly flop and slide on their faces.
Apparently a Battleship movie is in the works. Based on the board game.

Candyland, too.

Note to residents of Missouri: Acting in a flirtatious manner towards a video camera implies consent to having your shirt pulled off on the video, and a video of your tits to be sold for profit.
Australia plans on snooping on what their citizens do while on the Internet.

How? We can’t tell you because 90% of the document is censored.

Why is it censored? To prevent debate. Seriously.

Australia is still supposed to be a democracy, right?

“Why would vampires sparkle?” is a common refrain these days. “That’s stupid.”

Well, boys and girls, they might sparkle … if they were insects! Butterflies, to be more exact.

Here’s a big surprise: The software industry makes up statistics to support their views on software piracy.

The morning coffee surfs the internet volcano

After investing over £500 million on monitoring the UK population via CCTV, the UK’s Home Office finally decided to see if they make any sort of difference in terms of deterring crime. They do. So long as it’s a late-night parking lot that has the CCTV. Everywhere else? Not so much.

UK Government, please see this and stop spending so much money on CCTV. It invades our privacy, and makes us no less safe, except for the time we spend in parking lots. Instead, spend that money on police, or dog shows, or something.

Over in the United States, the government is soliciting opinions on stem-cell research via the Internet. As most people are probably aware, Internet surveys tend to be biased towards those with strong opinions. In the stem-cell-research case, this means that the naysayers (who believe children are being murdered) are shouting much louder than (what I hope is) the sensible majority.

So, sensible majority, I invite you to check out the changes, and let the US government know your opinions on the matter. Also, please pass this information along as the sensible majority is so rarely prone to out-shouting the naysayers.

Wonder what the rebinding of a 490-year-old book looks like? Thanks to this rebinding of Ovid’s Metamorphoses, you no longer have to.

Finally, in celebration of their new book, we close with some Dinosaur Comics:
one such species that does this is "pseudobiceros hancockanus", and don't worry, you will be easily forgiven for thinking its name is totally made up
